Located just opposite the Chinese Swiming Club, Pang Seafood is gaining popularity as a premier place to enjoy Hainanese cuisine and great seafood. We got our chance when we had a family gathering there. The restaurant was used to be Craven Cafe (Nasi Kandar) and earlier it was Fatty Loh's Chicken Rice before it moved to its current location in Fettes Park
We ordered Deep Fried Squid, Fried Tofu with vegies, chinese green vegies, Curry Fish and Sweet and Sour Crabs with servings of Deep Fried Mantou (Chinese buns). Overall the dishes were OK. The Curry Fish was better but the highlight was the Roe Crabs cooked in a sweet and sour sauce. You should also order the Deep Fried Montou to eat with the crab dish's gravy that has been fully incorporated with the melted crab roe and the sweetness of the crab meat. Spicy, sweet, sour and savoury from the roes is really a taste of food paradise until of course we were presented with the bill.
The crab dish (3 medium sized crabs) with a total weight of 2.06kg cost RM113. That can be another family meal itself. All in all, the total bill was RM311. The curry fish was RM75 for a large claypot.
Overall, the restaurant is clean and airy with ample parking at the front and back of the restaurant. Open for lunch 11:30am - 2:30pm and dinner 6:00pm - 10:00pm. The restaurant has its own loyal clientiele and the restaurant seemed well patronised. The restaurant positioned itself as a higher than usual end seafood haunt and Hainanese fare.
the price is cutting throat!
